American Cichlid Association
Excellence in Writing Award
1999 - 2000
On Saturday 22nd July 2000, I was extremely honoured to be awarded the 1999 - 2000 ACA Excellence in Writing Award for my article "Lake Tanganyika and its Diverse Cichlids."

The award is presented to the author of the article judged to have been the best of those that were published in the ACA's magazine "Buntbarsche Bulletin" during the relevant year.

I originally wrote the article as an assignment for a writing course that I was taking at the Bermuda College.  The article was subsequently published in "Fish Tales", the publication of the Bermuda Fry-Angle Aquarium Society.  It was later re-printed in both "Buntbarsch Bulletin" and "Modern Aquarium", the publication of the Greater City Aquarium Society (New York).

I was extremely pleased to simply have the article appear in the ACA's publication.  To then win this award was stunning.  I am extremely grateful to the panel of judges who saw fit to nominate me for this award.  I now feel an obligation to write further articles of an equal (or better) standard.  Writing a well-researched article can be a time consuming process but winning an award of this significance makes it more than worthwhile.

I love the ACA!
